"Assisting enterprises with financing, fostering collaboration among businesses, accelerating the development of tech industry clusters, and ensuring the integrity and security of industrial chains have always been key priorities for the park's technology department," said Ni Qian, Deputy Director of the Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee, during his speech. "Optical communications and laser technologies have consistently been among the industries receiving strong support from the park, which also boasts favorable supporting policies. Currently, the park is rapidly advancing its 'One Zone, Two Centers' development strategy, ramping up efforts to nurture emerging strategic industries such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence—creating an even better innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem for companies. We warmly invite all businesses and investment institutions present today to deepen their presence and contribute to the park's continued growth."
With the introduction of a series of national policies, next-generation information technologies such as 5G, big data, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, and smart mobile devices have been rapidly advancing, creating significant market opportunities for the optical communication components industry. Dr. Ding Hai, Deputy General Manager of Suzhou Xuchuang Technology, shared insights from multiple angles, including the history of the information revolution and IT development, fiber-optic communications, and the optical module industry chain and technology. Dr. Ding emphasized that China Telecom’s optical module sector is currently experiencing an upward cycle, underscoring that optical modules remain a market segment with clear growth potential.
Speaking about the development of laser technology and emerging investment opportunities, Dr. Zhao Yuxing, Chairman and General Manager of Suzhou Delong Laser Technology Co., Ltd., believes that from the perspective of industry growth opportunities and challenges, China's domestic laser technology still has significant room for advancement as demand from the manufacturing sector continues to rise. However, given the limited market potential for individual laser types, domestic laser companies must not only overcome bottlenecks in critical materials and components but also carve out their own unique competitive advantages amid intense, often homogeneous competition. Looking ahead, investment opportunities in several niche laser segments—such as semiconductor lasers, ultrafast lasers, excimer lasers, and fiber lasers—are particularly worth watching.
Lidar technology is a core component in the autonomous driving systems of smart vehicles. Discussing the integrated development of lidar technology, Li Yong, founder and Deputy General Manager of Juguang Technology’s Automotive Division, noted that lidar remains a relatively young yet rapidly evolving technology within the automotive industry. As a critical sensor for both driverless and autonomous driving applications, lidar is seeing steadily growing market demand. With the introduction of more vehicle models featuring this technology, lidar is poised to accelerate its transition toward large-scale commercial deployment—potentially triggering a reshuffling of current technology pathways in the industry.
In the wave of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which type of technology is most likely to take the lead? Mi Lei, founding partner of Zhongke Chuangxing, shared during his keynote speech titled "Photonics Technology Leads the Fourth Scientific and Technological Revolution" that, based on historical evolution, the four foundational sciences—optics, mechanics, electronics, and computing—will all play pivotal roles in shaping the future. As the cornerstone of the intelligent era, next-generation information technology relies heavily on these fields, with optoelectronic technology serving as the core enabler driving its advancement. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is, after all, a revolution centered on intelligence—and in this consumer-driven photonics era, it is optoelectronic technology that is paving the way for breakthroughs in artificial intelligence algorithms.
In the field of optical communications, as global data volumes continue to grow, optical modules are evolving toward ultra-high frequency, ultra-high speed, and ultra-large capacity. Zheng Ruiting, Executive Director at Cloudwise Capital, believes that the advancement of 5G is driving the optical module industry toward higher data rates. Within the optical module sector, electronic chips and optical chips—acting as core components—will become the primary focus for future research and development efforts.
The report from the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized the need to build China into a cyber power, accelerate the Digital China initiative, and create a smart society. Dr. Chen Yixin, Director of Investment at Jinsha River United Capital, noted that foundational core technologies—such as optoelectronics, 5G, semiconductor RF communications, and third-generation semiconductor power electronics—are crucial pillars for realizing the ambitious vision of Digital China. From an investment perspective, the firm will focus on deepening engagement in key areas including advanced semiconductor technologies, high-end equipment and their critical components, wide-bandgap semiconductor materials, LiDAR technology, optoelectronic core technologies, optical communication technologies and products, optical processing and its applications, intelligent vehicles, as well as autonomous/assisted driving systems and smart lifestyle solutions—actively identifying promising investment opportunities across these specialized sectors.
Data shows that nearly 10,000 semiconductor companies have been established each year over the past two years, signaling a surge in entrepreneurship and investment activity within China's semiconductor industry. Su Renhong, founder of Hushan Capital, highlighted in his keynote speech titled "China’s Semiconductor Development and Investment Opportunities Amid the Industry Boom" that market demand remains the primary driver of China’s semiconductor growth. While the sector is still characterized by its fragmented, small-scale, and highly diverse nature, it has already seen the emergence of leading players in niche segments. Moreover, domestically produced chips tailored for applications like communications and industrial sectors are propelling China’s semiconductor industry into a new phase of development. As a strategically prioritized industry, semiconductors are poised to enter a fresh investment cycle.
